"I'm Like..." - BIGREC feat. Jawz Of Life & Jahah (prod. by Big Rus)

As some of you know, I sing (not just rhyme) and record chorus's for other emcee's. Just call me the new "Underground Hook Man". I've been recording vocals for emcee's in New York, Florida and California as of late. They phone has been ringing and I've keep picking up!

The song you'll hear above is from the New Orleans native Big Rec! I met Big Rec after one of my performances awhile back. He informed me that he dug my show and wanted me to slide through the studio to lay down some vocals for his new mix-tape. I ended up lending my vocals to 3 different Big Rec tunes and one of those songs is "I'm like..." (the song above).

Anyhow, big up to the talented and creative Big Rec and his crew The Five! These guys are up next and I truly believe something big is going to happen for them. They are organized and really making a name for themselves on the streets of Atlanta.

Check out Big Rec's new project RHHIB The Directive for the realness!

Dear God x Jahah

Today I ran across the above and thought it was perfect! I'm always in my own head and constantly talking to God asking Him for this, that, and third. I do take time to just say thank you but more often then not I have my hand out! Today I just wanted to say thank you to God because He's been more than good to ya' boy! Even when I'm doing or saying things He wouldn't (probably) approve of...I believe He's never and won't give up on me.

Take sometime out today to say thank you!

Peace

Urban Mediamakers Film Festival x 1986

The Urban Mediamakers Film Festival has selected my video "1986" Directed By: Tony Reames to be showcased on October 14th at the Red Clay Theatre and Arts Center (Georgia).

I've never been to a film festival so I'm really not sure what to expect or how this festival thing works. Hell, I've never submitted anything to a film festival up until now. I actually didn't submit to this UMFF festival either. I think Tony or Glenna did and now my video "1986" has been selected.

The great thing about this video is that I totally stepped back and said, "Tony work your magic! Do what you see in your head visually and I won't intervene at all". That was hard for me to do because I'm a hands on kind of guy but over the years I've been learning to relax and take notes and direction as opposed to always being the driver. I'm excited for Tony and his accomplishments because he's come a long way. His dreams are becoming his realities (we have a lot in-store that people don't even know about). Big up's to you Tony Reames! I'm happy and proud of you bro bro!

Lastly, I can't forget the homie Tymm Hoffman because he contributed a lot to the video "1986" as well. A lot of the work you see in the video is Tymm's doing. You get big up's too!

If you haven't seen "1986", say no more! Just click the play button below and go!

Kanye West and Jay Z: Church In The Wild

So I finally made time for the new Kanye and Jay Z video and I'm not sure how to feel about it. Don't get me wrong, it's well shot but I can't help but wonder if the super powers made this video to start controversy or did they really wanna make a point.

I will say this, "Church In The Wild" is one of the few songs that I like on the Watch The Throne album. I'm a Kanye and Jay Z fan so I don't wanna hear nobody talking about I'm hating! I just wasn't able to vibe to the album like I wanted to. There are some great moments but overall the album isn't getting heavy rotation in my car. I'm still a fan of these two though...I don't even know why I'm explaining myself. If I don't like it, I don't like it.

Anyhow, I'd like to know what you all think of the video. What are your thoughts? Holla at me!

Jahah: My Desire

"My Desire" is another song from my album Nostalgia RED. This is actually the last song I recorded for my project and wasn't even sure I was going to include it. Why? Well, it sounds totally different than all of the other tunes on the project musically but it still has a nostalgic feel. I just wasn't sure how the "heads" would feel about it but I decided to go with my heart cause' I dig it a lot. Lyrically it kind of reminds me of something LL Cool J would've of done years ago (with more soul perhaps). I hope you enjoy!

This one is for the ladies!

No Famous Cosigns features Jahah

The incredible www.nofamouscosigns.com has featured my video "Freak the Funk" and a me performing "Before I Go" (Live at The Earl) on their website today!

I've put a lot of time and effort into my project Nostalgia RED so it's very rewarding when I receive positive compliments, posts, and/or feedback concerning the songs I created for it. It's especially rewarding when I receive positive sentiments concerning my live performances! To be able to inspire people live or have them walk away (after seeing me perform) feeling good and energized is a blessing! I don't take the opportunity or my talent(s) for granted. God is more than good! That's for sure.

Big up to No Famous CoSigns! I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to building with you more in the future.

Jahah: Soul Music (Live @ The Earl)

Soul Music:

I've performed this song all around the world and the other night I performed it again for the millionth time! However, this time I performed the song acoustically (for the first time) and Rod (the guitarist) added some Tony Toni Tone and Eddie Kendricks flavor to the mix.

I had a really good time performing at The Earl despite the rough week I had prior to walking on the stage. It's crazy how you can be going through some stressful things in life but still have the power to get up and inspire people. I had been feeling like my little world was falling apart but after I performed some of the tension I was dealing with subsided. I had people coming up to me saying that I inspired them and made them feel good. These kind of comments made me feel even more appreciative for what God has done in my life and for those around me whom I love.

I'm not totally healed but I feel like I will be free sooner than later! I thank God and Rock Most for the opportunity to relieve some stress. I needed that moment. I only wish one person would have been there to see me rock...

God bless!

Jahah: Before I Go (Live @ The Earl)

Yo, the other night I had the pleasure of opening up for my homie Rock Most in celebration of his new album Rise and Shine!

This particular event (or night) showcased some of Atlanta's premiere underground hip hop talents and I decided to go against the grain and perform acoustically as opposed to rocking with a DJ or a band.

I haven't performed without a 5 piece band in probably 10 years and I've never performed acoustically! I wanted to take a risk and do something a little different that would hopefully set me apart from the other hip-hop artist on the bill. I decided to call up one of my favorite guitar players, Rod Harris, and ask him if he'd be interested in playing guitar for me acoustically. I explained to Rod that I wanted to rhyme and sing songs over his guitar playing minus a band to showcase my lyrics and vocals more. Rod thought it was a great idea and the rest is history!

Overall, I thought my first acoustic set came off pretty good and I look forward to doing more sets just like this in the near future. I'm thinking the next time I'd like to add a percussionist to keep time and add a little flavor but I dig the bareness of what you'll hear in the clip above. It's just me, the guitar, and the crowd singing together. There's something very human and natural about this vibe...it just feels more authentic to me. I feel like I should have done this years ago!

Big up to Jay Calvert on the background vocals. Also, thanks to everyone who showed and supported the movement. You are appreciated! Seriously!

Enjoy!

A Facebook Question That Opened Me Up

Via my girl Tiffany Chevelle: "Can u love someone u haven't really been around? Yet you know them better than someone u have...? If so, what would u do to be with them"? I thought this was a very real and interesting question to ask. What do you think?

  • Sam Pinon and Tiffany Chevelle like this.

    • Tiffany Chevelle I am interested in getting everyone's opinion also....

    • Samantha Wienke I think you can definitely can fall in love with idea of someone...and that can be a very powerful and compelling thing. So says Confuciuos Sam! Lol

    • Jason Jahah Berry To me...this is a great question! I know there are other ppl out there who have gone or are going through something like this. However, some ppl are too afraid to admit it or too hard inside to deal with their real emotions. I have a feeling the responses will only come from women because most men are not in tune with this type of emotion. I don't mind talking about "Love" and what comes with it. Ppl are gonna talk behind your back anyway (regardless). Love can be many things and the experience...well...I won't get it in to that right now.

    • Tiffany Chevelle I think often men are, yet are afraid to embrace it & speak about it in a discussion... they do not want to come off soft or admit when they put themselves out there...

    • Trice Conde Absolutely!! I agree will Samantha... you fall in love wtih the idea of who you "think" that person is! Once around them you will know if its love or infatuation
      5 hours ago ·  ·  3 people

    • Jason Jahah Berry Trice Conde: I agree with you in many ways. All relationships start off smooth and they make you feel so high! After 2 or 3 months the attraction you have for the other person is not as important...it's the character of the person and your daily interaction with them that starts to count (more importantly). Can you deal with the person you're attracted to on the daily basis? Is this person too much for you to deal with? Can you see yourself being around this person day in and day out? Sometimes you just gotta take a leap in the dark and see if what you think is love...is actually something else...lust, comfort, security, infatuation. Do the pros and the cons and try to be realistic. Time will always tell you the truth.

    • Dres ThaBeatnik Well, Speaking as the Minority in this Thread. I think that it is possible, very possible but, with that in the terms that we're speaking of, it involves the Risk of no reciprocity. You can be in Love with the idea that is that Person but if the Person doesn't reciprocate it can be damaging especially to a Man's Ego. I've had that happen to me on more than one time in My Life. Where I fell for a Girl(while a Young Boy) & with a Woman(while a Man) and the Response was less than Favorable. Like recently, I started dating a Woman that i had known for Over a Year, we were good friends. Not Great Friends mostly because I didn't want to get Put in the Friend Zone. She had been out of a Relationship for over 6 mos and had given me every indication that She was ready to try to be in a Relationship. I told Her that I actually wanted to take things Slow but I liked Her... I mean I really liked Her and the feeling was mutual. Or so I thought. Within a Month we had went from enjoying each others company and gaining a better understand of who the other person was to Her saying, "I haven't put things where they need to be with My Ex. I need to get Myself together & I don't want to do this with You Half-Assed". You figure "it's only a Month, it shouldn't matter" But I Feel like I did everything by the Book the way it was supposed to be done and that was the result? Needless to say, I was a bit taken back by all of it but I kept my cool about it but inside I really didn't want to. I wanted to snap on Her but all I could hear in My Head was "it's only a Month, i shouldn't matter". But it left Me with so many questions. I really don't wanna see/date anyone else and if waiting is what I need to do until She's ready then so be it. I got things to do to better myself and this should only Help right? Feels like a Bonnie Raitt song if You ask Me. "I Can't Make You Love Me" http://youtu.be/nW9Cu6GYqxo I feel like this Person is worth the wait cause She's the Right person for Me and My Understanding of Who I am and what My Place & worth is in this World!! And I for Her!!

    • Jason Jahah Berry My dude Dres ThaBeatnik! Now that's a honest response that I did not expect from "any" male figure...let alone Tha Beatnik. I admire your willingness to speak on something that is/was personal to you! I like the "wait" part near the end. I hope everything works out for the two of you and that the "one month" will turn into 3, then 6, then a year, then several years etc. Thanks for sharing bro! Oh yeah', the Bonnie Raitt joint is a classic. Awesome song!

I thought the above was a great question because I've had to ask myself this question in the past. I'm usually the type of person who knows exactly what I want and then I go after it. However, I'm very analytic when it comes to making decisions and I do my best not react on emotion. I feel like I'm always in my own head analyzing (perhaps over analyzing) my situation and what to do with it when sometimes I just need to take a risk.

Over the past 2 years I've gotten a lot better at taking risks and letting go to let God do His will. I still have days and moments when I try to control everything but I am making constant efforts to let go and allow God to direct me. I'm in desperate need of His guidance!

I often ask God to speak to me clearly so I can make the right decisions for myself and those around me that I love. Lately I've been battling with my decision making which is really unlike me to do! There are new things in my life that I would like to pursue and fear has held me back from doing so. I feel like if I make the wrong decision I will end up self-destructing and my life will forever be altered. On the other hand, I feel like if I don't take a risk I may lose an opportunity to truly be fulfilled and the thought of losing this opportunity is driving me crazy!

Above, Dres Tha Beatnik said he is willing to wait for what he believes is probably his soul mate. I wonder if my opportunity will wait for me? The odds don't look to be in my favor but I was once told that God doesn't give anything you can't handle.

Something is telling me I'm not handling things very well...

Pray
