Southern Dope x Jahah

I received a nice little write up concerning my song and video "Bare My Heart" from SOUTHERN DOPE today! Read below or check me out on their site by clicking the pic above.

Southern Dope:

Jahah is a man who has experienced much, from already putting out 3 solo efforts since he got started in 2002 with his debut Ear For Music, to working with the likes of Big RubePinkSpeech(Arrested Development),  and many many others. In other words, the producer/emcee/singer/songwriter, repping the A-Town, has already earned his veteran status when it comes to his involvement in the music.

Now the beyond talented singer is back and ready to do some damage in 2012 with a 4th studio album in the works entitled Nostalgia (BLACK) and some new visuals to accompany it. Check out"Bare My Heart," a heartfelt Hip-Hop-laced R&B joint with a sample from the Run DMC classic"Here We Go." In the video Jahah puts on the impromptu image of the starving artist strolling the streets of Atlanta, even though that might not exactly have been the case according to how he posts it on his website (www.jahahonline.com).

Jahah: Bare My Heart (Official Video)

As promised...I'm releasing the official "viral" video to my song "Bare My Heart" today! I'm hoping and praying that people will really dig the visuals to this record and email me for a free MP3 of the song. Yeah that's right! If you email me at jahahmamasonlyson@rocketmail.com and ask me to "Bare My Heart"...I will send you a free copy of my song "Bare My Heart". It's that simple beautiful people!

About The Song/Video and the Night:

The way we shot this viral video was very "Impromptu" and "Spur of the Moment" style. My music/video team and I (The Feel/The Ingredient) just finished rapping up the final shots for another Jahah video entitled "Happy" and I  suggested we shoot a viral video for "Bare My Heart" later on that same night. Everybody on the set was down so we packed up the cameras and made our way into the Atlanta nightlife for a very cold and brisk video shoot.

Before we started shooting the video I was scheduled to perform a song at The Indigo Bar around 9pm. As usual my performance did not start on time so my crew and I had to linger around and harass people for a hour or so. Once I performed we all hung around and watched Nsil and Ange push each other to pick up the opposite sex. This was seriously hilarious because "N" would just go up to a girl and kind of linger around and never say anything to her. I can't really explain it but brotha "N" was looking a little bit nervous (even though I know this cat has got game)! I don't remember Ange ever going up to any guy and getting his number but she sure did press and egg on "N" to get digits from somebody else's daughter. It never happened.

I think the highlight of The Indigo Bar was my dude "Dirty Dickens" barking down some chica at the elevator. His approach was brash and very aggressive but I believe the female victim was definitely feeling him! Seriously. At first I thought she was hella scared of him but then she started to laugh and smile. It was almost as if she was terrified and excited at the same time. I can't explain this one either but I know this chica was ready to take "Dickens" home and do the nasty! My man "Dickens" has a lot of charisma and could have booked this chica with ease but he just let her go...it was his moment shine but he didn't sweat it. Not even a little bit. He just turned the other cheek and said, "Nsil that's how you do it"! I guess you had to be there.

Finally around 11pm we decided to start shooting the video for "Bare My Heart" (BMH). We took to the cold night air and hit Lucky Street right by the Rialto Theater (downtown Atlanta). I don't think anyone of us were ready for the weather conditions but we toughed it out and shot the video like our lives depended it on!

The shot of me sitting on the curb was very interesting because the people driving by in their cars had no mercy on me! They acted as if I wasn't even there and I had to jump up at least 2 or 3 times to save my legs from being severed.

My favorite shot in the video is of me walking down the street with the city lights behind me. I didn't expect this shot to turn out the way it did because it seemed so lame when we were shooting it. I call this a "Happy Mistake" and a blessing from a higher power because the location wasn't something we scouted. I guess sometimes you just gotta wing it and see what happen's. I wouldn't suggest doing this all the time but occasionally the best shots are the one's you didn't plan to shoot in advance. In our case that's the whole video for "BMH". We didn't scout or plan to shoot any of it when we did. We totally winged it and just went out and had fun. No treatment and no script! Just a Canon 7D and T2i with a iPod and 5 people walking around the city in hella cold weather.

With the above being said...Thank you to Tony, Nsil, Ange, and Dirty Dicken's for facing the tough weather and helping me achieve my goals/dreams. You four are appreciated in more ways than you know!

Enjoy,

Jahah

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks the Internet

To all my fellow musicians, blogger's, Internet business owner's, and people who just want to have the freedom to use your right to speak out with out our "non-amazing" government censoring you...the above clip may be of interest to you!

I love my country but something has got to give! As of right now I'm searching for America! I'm looking for all the things I was taught America stood for when I was in grade school. I'm searching for the dreams and social standards America brainwashed me and millions of other's to believe as children.

I don't write this with malice in my heart! I write this with concern and with hopes that the American dream (if there ever was one) is not dead. I feel we rely and expect too much from our politicians and government. Do these old men and women really have the little man/woman's back? Think about it and ask yourself: Do you really feel secure in the greatest country in the world? Homelessness! Unemployment! Civil War?! Yes, there's a war going on right here in our backyard and we're trying to civilize other counties? We can't even civilize our own country damn it! Our government doesn't want to civilize it's own country because they don't care about the hood. These are simply just project (The Projects).

Anyhow, I don't know much about anything so I will just stop rambling and pray that someone with some common sense and a heart for the people will come along and fix things for all of us (yeah right).

Much love to you beautiful people!

God Bless you and America (The Land of the Free).

This is how we chill from 93' Until!

This is ya boy (on the left) back in 93' sun. Peep the bright ass windbreaker creeping through the black triple phat goose with the Guess denim tucked in the Vasque hiking boots. On my right is my brotha' Courtney with his denim digs tucked in his Vasque hiking boots as well! Damn we were on some Das EFX B.S. but these were the good ole days...the carefree days! The fun and non-responsible days that I miss so much!

As kids we were always in such a rush to grow up and become adults. Now that I'm an adult I wish I could go back to being a kid and live off my mama' on them! Man, it's crazy how life changes us and how our thoughts yearn for more nostalgic days once we get older and have to take on real life responsibilities. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for all the blessings God has bestowed upon me and my family but sometimes life can be overwhelming and that's when I start reflecting on my days of young!

Today I was sent the picture above and it brought back hella' memories! Things I had forgotten about and realized I missed after taking a walk down memory lane. I recalled some of my travels in life and how much of the world I've seen being a military brat and touring musically. I thought about all the faces and people I've met and shook hands with. I thought about the people I became close friends and how they impacted my life forever. I thought about all of this and suddenly realized  that these important times and people have vanished from my life without a trace. Why does this happen? If it weren't for social networking sites I may not have ever been in contact with some of the people I've met along my journey. What was/is the purpose of meeting these people if they were going to just disappear in years to come? Life is can sometimes be one big ole question mark. I need answers damn it!

Where does the time go and how can we capture these special moments forever?! There are times and people I miss dearly that I will never get back. I only wish that I would have appreciated these times and the people I've had fun with when I was in the moment with them. You don't realize until it's over that these moments will be the moments you'll want to have back in years to come! It sucks man...it's not fair! Such is life?

Anyhow, I guess my point is this: Love your life and cherish the little things cause time is not on our side and one day all the B.S. won't mean so much to you. The things that will mean the most to you are your friends and your family (and the time you've spent with them). Cherish the day!

Stay blessed,

The Urban Music Scene

I leaked my song "Bare My Heart" about a month ago and it's slowly picking up steam via the blogs and Internet radio. One site that has featured me in their monthly "New Voices to Watch Out For" is www.theurbanmusicscene.com

It's always cool when people I've never met or had any form of contact with enjoy my music and post positive things about me (or in this case "Bare My Heart"). I know when this happens the comments made aren't bias and the people posting my music are coming from an honest place. That's a great feeling because I do work hard at what I present to you all creatively. I work really hard and lose plenty of sleep!

Anyhow, I hope and pray "Bare My Heart" continues to grow and make headlines! I claim that it will. I feel like something great is going to happen to me and my music!

Lastly, I almost wasn't going to use "Bare My Heart" for my forthcoming project "Nostalgia BLACK". I'd played this song (BMH) and many other records for my big bro Jay Calvert a few months back in the studio and he said it was a decent album track but not a standout track (which it still very well may be). I then played some of my songs for an old buddy of mine (John Barber) and he said it was one of his favorites (if not his favorite) out of all the songs I played for him and gave me several reasons why.

With the above being said, I decided to leak the song myself and see what type of feedback it would achieve (if any at all). So far the response has been stellar and plenty of blogs oversea's (especially Spain) have been picking up this tune and posting it on their website's.

I hopefully I can get some muscle behind this song and project (investment) so I can take things to the next level. I feel like I deserve to be on radio and with the like's of Anthony Hamilton and cats like Musiq Soulchild. I good for a shot at the top!

For those who haven't heard BMH...just click play below! Also, take a look at my feature via www.theurbanmusicscene.com and drop a comment or two!

Stay Blessed!

4 Year Old Beats Computer in Madden 103 to 43: Jahah

I don't share a lot of family oriented things online because I don't wan't my loved one's to be targets for mean comments and foul statements. I'd like to believe that most people are good and kind but then I check myself and realize more than a few of us are cruel and ignorant. I only trust in a few. I was taught that 1 real friend is better than 4 or 5 fraudulent ones.

Anyhow, I had to share this footage of the "Great X-Man" because he is only four years old and he's beaten Madden (the computer) many times with huge leads. I've literally seen him score 121 points playing the computer on Madden and I don't understand it. I'm not a gamer and I don't play a lot of Madden (I actually don't play Madden at all now-a-days) but I have reason to believe that no kid under 8 to 10 years old should be killing it on Madden like this. Especially not a 4 year old...maybe it's just my bias opinion. As usual, most of my statements are subjective...

Who wants to challenge the seed in a game of Madden?! I didn't think so!

Mission Impossible 4

When I have down time I like to keep my mind occupied because I start over thinking things. I'm always in my own head and I really start to bug out! Behind my smile there's a lot going on that I won't ever show.

With that being said, I thought I would go check out Mr. Tom Cruise and his new movie Mission Impossible 4 tonight. I'm not a huge fan of Cruise but I do like that Mrs. Paula Patton! She's a beast and will definitely allow me to escape for an hour or so...Did you see Mrs. Paula Patton in the new Robin Thicke video?! Dude!

Anyhow, if you've seen this flick and it sucks...please let a brotha' know before I go out and spend my hard earned $6.00! Yeah, I said it! It's $6.00 Tuesdays at Regal Cinemas playa'. Tuesday's are my big day to hit the movies and splurge out! Baller shit! Ha! Who am I kidding? A small popcorn with a drink still cost $30.00. Imagine if I took someone with me. That's a $60.00 night and you don't even speak to each other. Damn, I need to start/open up a movie theater!

So, if the movie is weak, somebody holla' at me and let a brotha' know! I'd rather know in advance so I can wait and spend my $6.00 on a number 2 at Chick-Fil-a! I'll take extra Polynesian sauce with that too!
